Here's some good news: if you recorded with the wrong effect, you can change it anytime. You don't need to re-record anything.
Voloco lets you swap effects even after you've finished recording! Record your vocals once, then try different effects until you find one you like.
Why This Works
When you finish recording and tap the Record button again, Edit View appears. In Edit View, all the effect controls work the same way they do in Performance View. You can change your FX, adjust your Key and Scale, tweak your EQ, and more.
In Voloco effects aren't permanently stuck to your recording. They're applied in real time, which means you can always change your mind.
Think of it like trying on different filters. Your original recording stays the same, but you can preview it with any effect you want!
How to Change an Effect
1. Open Edit View
After you record, Voloco automatically shows you the Edit View. If you've already left Edit View, just tap on your project to open it again.
2. Tap a Vocal Segment
Tap on any of your vocal recordings in the timeline. You'll see it highlighted when it's selected and a menu will pop up.
3. Tap FX & Volume
Look at the top of the menu. Tap the FX & Volume button.
4. Pick a New Effect
Now you'll see all the effect groups applied to your vocals
Just scroll through and tap any effect to change them out with a different preset. The effect applies instantly!
5. Listen to It
Hit play and listen to your vocals with the new effect. Keep trying different ones until something clicks.
6. Adjust Settings (Optional)
Some effects have extra controls you can tweak:
- Pitch Correction Strength: Makes the effect more or less obvious
You can also change your Key and Scale by tapping the Key button at the top of the screen.
Using Different Effects on Different Parts
Want to use Hard Tune on your chorus but Natural Tune on your verses? You can do that!
Just tap each vocal segment separately and choose different effects for each one. This gives you a lot of creative control without recording multiple takes.
Tips for Finding the Right Effect
Play your track while you browse. The best way to know if an effect works is to hear it with your beat playing.
Start with effects for your genre. Making rap? Try the Modern Rap effects first. Making something electronic? Check out Talkbox and vocoder effects. This saves you time.
Check your Key setting. If every effect sounds out of tune, your Key might be wrong. Tap the Key button at the top and make sure it matches your beat. Voloco usually detects this automatically, but sometimes it needs adjustment.
Compare against the Starter Pack. Even if you have Premium, try listening to Hard Tune or Natural Tune first. Then try the fancier effects. This helps you hear what's actually different.
Export multiple versions if you're unsure. Can't decide between two effects? Export both. Your project saves your original recording, so you can always come back and export another version later.
Common Questions
Will this mess up my original recording?
Nope. Your original vocal is always safe! Effects are just applied on top when you play or export. Change them as much as you want.
Can I change effects after I've already exported the song?
The exported file has the effect you chose at export time. But your Voloco project still has the original recording. Just open the project, change the effect, and export again.
What if I don't want any effects?
Use the Clean effect from the Starter Pack. It removes background noise but doesn't change your voice with pitch correction or vocoder stuff.
Can I use multiple effects at the same time?
You can use one FX effect at a time per vocal segment. But you can also add EQ, Compressor, Reverb, and Echo on top of your FX for a fuller sound.
Do I need Premium to change effects?
No. You can switch between the five Starter Pack effects (Hard Tune, Natural Tune, Super Vocoder, Big Chorus, Clean) anytime for free. Premium just gives you 50+ more effects to choose from.
