EQ (Equalizer) works by lowering or amplifying certain frequencies of a sound, whether high, low, or mid-range, to create a color or overall tone.
Use EQ to make your voice brighter, warmer, or to cut out problem frequencies.

- Tap EQ

Free EQ Presets
Everyone gets these EQ presets for free:
Bypass
No EQ applied. The effect is bypassed.
Use this when: You want your natural voice with no tonal shaping.
Mid-range Scoop
A widely-used effect that lowers the mid-range of the sound, creating a combination of crisp highs and deep lows.
Use this when: You want a scooped, modern sound with emphasized highs and lows.
Brightness
Adds a sheen to high-end sounds including the sibilance of consonant sounds.
Use this when: Your voice sounds dull or muddy and needs more clarity and sparkle.
Low and High Boost
Similar to mid-range scoop, but works by turning up the low and mid-range rather than cutting out the middle.
Use this when: You want a fuller, rounder sound with enhanced bass and treble.
Vocal Clarity
Accentuates notable frequencies in the vocal range to provide clear, up-front vocals.
Use this when: Your vocals are getting lost in the mix and need to cut through.
Telephone
Cuts out the low and high end, leaving the middle for a canned, phone-like sound.
Use this when: You want that lo-fi, vintage telephone effect.
Custom EQ (Premium Only)
With Voloco Premium, you can unlock all custom parameters of EQ to sculpt your sound as you see fit. Tap Custom in the EQ panel to activate.
High Pass Frequency
All frequencies above this value are preserved (passed), while all frequencies below it are filtered out. Use this to remove unnecessary low-end frequencies in your voice.
When to adjust: If your recording has rumble, low hum, or unwanted bass frequencies.
Hz Values (200 to 8,000)
Use these controls to sculpt each frequency range from 200 (low) to 8,000 (high). You can start with the included presets to get a sense of how EQ affects your sound, and build from there.
When to adjust: When you want precise control over specific frequency ranges.
High Shelf Gain
Increases the gain (volume) of the high end frequencies overall. Boost this control to give your sound a crisp high-end or lower it for a more muted tone.
When to adjust: To add air and brightness or to tame harsh high frequencies.
Tips for Using EQ
Start with presets. Try the free presets first to hear what EQ can do. Once you understand how each preset affects your sound, you'll know when to use Custom EQ.
Less is often more. Small EQ adjustments can make a big difference. Don't boost or cut frequencies too aggressively unless you're going for a specific effect.
Use headphones. EQ changes can be subtle. Listening on headphones helps you hear exactly what's happening to your sound.
Cut before you boost. If something sounds bad, try cutting that frequency range first before boosting others. Cutting usually sounds more natural.
Common EQ Uses
Muddy vocals? Cut around 200-400 Hz to clean up low-mid muddiness.
Harsh or sharp vocals? Cut around 2,000-4,000 Hz to reduce harshness.
Dull vocals that need sparkle? Boost around 8,000 Hz or higher to add air and brightness.
Vocals getting lost in the mix? Try the Vocal Clarity preset or boost around 2,000-3,000 Hz.
Want a modern, scooped sound? Use the Mid-range Scoop preset.
EQ and Other Effects
EQ works alongside your chosen FX effect. You can use EQ with Hard Tune, Natural Tune, or any other vocal effect.
Typical signal chain:
- Choose your FX (Hard Tune, Natural Tune, etc.)
- Add Compressor for punch
- Apply EQ to shape your tone
- Add Echo for depth
- Add Reverb for space
Each tool does something different, and they all work together to create your final sound.
