Want to turn off an effect temporarily without changing your settings? You can bypass any FX effect in Voloco.
Bypassing lets you hear your vocals with the effect turned off while keeping all your settings saved. This is useful for comparing your sound with and without effects.
How to Bypass an Effect (Version 9.11 and Later)
- Tap the FX button you want to bypass in the Vocal Controls
- This opens the effect's options
- Toggle the blue switch at the top of the settings to bypass the effect
- A diagonal line will appear across the FX icon, indicating it's bypassed
When an effect is bypassed:
- The effect is turned off
- Your settings are saved
- You can toggle it back on anytime
- The diagonal line shows it's currently bypassed
What Changed in Version 9.11?
In version 9.11, Voloco updated how bypassing works. Instead of selecting a "Bypass" preset from the effect menu, you now use a toggle switch within each effect's settings.
The new method gives you:
- Faster access to bypass any effect
- Visual confirmation with the diagonal line indicator
- Your effect settings stay exactly as you set them
When to Use Bypass
Compare your sound. Toggle bypass on and off to hear the difference the effect makes. This helps you decide if you need the effect or if your natural voice sounds better.
Test different effects. Bypass your current effect, then try a different one. You can always go back to your original effect with all settings intact.
A/B testing. When mixing, bypass effects one at a time to hear how each one contributes to your final sound.
Important: Bypass works the same way for all audio processing tools (Compressor, EQ, Reverb, Echo). Just toggle the switch at the top of each tool's settings. A diagonal line across the icon means it's bypassed.
Bypass vs. Selecting a Different Effect
Bypass: Turns off the current effect but keeps all your settings. Toggle it back on and everything is exactly as you left it.
Selecting a different effect: Changes to a new effect entirely. Your previous effect settings are replaced.
Use bypass when you want to turn an effect off temporarily. Select a different effect when you want to change your sound completely.
Troubleshooting
"I don't see a bypass option" Make sure you're running Voloco version 9.11 or later. Update your app if needed.
"The diagonal line disappeared" This means the effect is no longer bypassed. It's active again. Toggle the switch to bypass it.
"I want the old bypass method back" The new toggle method is faster and keeps your settings saved. Give it a try for a few sessions and you'll find it's more efficient.
