How to Make Beats and Record Vocals from Your Phone

You don't need a computer, a DAW, or any external gear to go from beat to finished vocal track. Voloco gives you everything you need to find or build on a beat and record a complete song from your phone. Here's the full workflow:
 

Option A: Use a beat from BeatStars

The fastest path to a finished track is recording over a beat that's already produced.

Voloco's built-in beat library is powered by BeatStars, one of the world's largest catalogs of professionally produced beats. When you start a new project and tap Add Beat, you can browse and preview beats across hip-hop, trap, R&B, and pop styles. Voloco automatically detects the key of the beat you load, so your pitch correction is set up correctly from the start.
 

Option B: Import your own beat

If you've produced a beat elsewhere (in GarageBand, FL Studio Mobile, or any other app), export it as a WAV or MP3 and import it into Voloco by tapping Add Beat > Import.
 

Option C: Produce a beat in another app, then bring it into Voloco

Voloco is a vocal processing and recording powerhouse, but if you want more control over beat production specifically, pairing it with a dedicated beatmaking app like GarageBand or FL Studio Mobile is a strong workflow. Export your beat and import it into Voloco by tapping Add Beat > Import.
 

Recording your vocals over the beat

Once your beat is loaded in Voloco:

1. Choose your effect. Pick something that matches the vibe of your beat: Hard Tune or a Modern Rap pack for hip-hop and trap, Natural Tune or P-Tain for R&B and melodic styles.
2. Record your lead vocal. Plug in wired earbuds, set your levels, and record.
3. Layer ad-libs and doubles. Tap the + button to add additional vocal tracks. Most rap and R&B productions use at least a lead track, a double, and a separate ad-lib track.
4. Apply effects per track. You can set different effects on different vocal tracks: a subtle effect on your lead, a heavier or more creative one on your ad-libs.

Finishing and exporting

When your track is done:

• Auto Mastering (Premium) — Tap to master your track in one step. Voloco's mastering adjusts levels and loudness to sound good on any playback system.
• Export the full mix — Share directly to social media or export as an MP3, or as a WAV if you're a Premium user.
• Export stems — Export your vocal track separately from the beat if you want to do additional mixing in a DAW.
