Never lose a recording again. Voloco's Project Backups feature automatically saves your projects to the cloud, so you can access your work on any device. This feature is new in Voloco 9.13.
What Gets Backed Up
Backups work with Projects only. These are the full recording sessions you create in Voloco's main recording interface. This includes:
- All vocal and instrumental tracks
- Applied effects and processing
- Project settings and arrangements
- Cover art
Note: Quick Recordings and Videos are not included in cloud backups.
How Auto Backup Works
Once enabled, Voloco automatically backs up your projects in the background. No manual action required. Auto backup runs at various times while the app is open, as well as in the background to ensure your latest content is protected.
Your most recently modified projects are backed up first.
Important: Auto Backup will not run while you're actively recording or in Performance Mode, so it never interferes with your creative workflow.
Managing Auto Backup Settings
You have full control over when and how backups run:
- Open Settings in the Voloco app
- Scroll to the Projects section
- Toggle Auto Backup on or off
- Toggle Backup on Cellular if you want backups to run when not connected to Wi-Fi (off by default to save mobile data)
Understanding Cloud Status Icons
Each project in your Library shows an icon indicating its backup status:
Icon | Description | What It Means |
| Cloud + checkmark | Your project's current version is safely backed up |
| Cloud + slash | This project exists on your device but hasn't been backed up yet |
| Cloud (plain) | A cloud backup is available. Either the project does not exist on your device, or does exist on your device and is different from the version in the cloud |
| Spinner | Backup or restore currently in progress |
| Cloud + exclamation | Backup or restore encountered an error |
Backing Up Projects Manually
While Auto Backup handles most situations, you can also back up projects manually:
- In your Library, find the project you want to back up
- Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) on the project
- Select Back up project
Manual backups take priority over automatic backups.
Backup Limits and Quota
Your backup quota depends on your subscription:
- Voloco Premium subscribers: Up to 20 project backups
- Project Backup add-on subscribers: Up to 1,000 project backups
- Non-subscribers: Backup features are not available
Check your current usage in Settings > Projects > Backups Used.
What Happens When You Reach Your Limit
When you've used all available backup slots:
- Existing backed-up projects remain safe and accessible
- New projects won't automatically back up
- To back up new projects, you'll need to delete an existing backup or upgrade your subscription
Note: If you have Voloco Premium (20 backups), you'll see a crown icon on "Back up project" for projects that aren't yet backed up, indicating you can upgrade to the Project Backup add-on for up to 1,000 backups.
Restoring Projects from Cloud
Restore a Single Project:
To restore a project from your cloud backups:
- In your Library, find the project you want to restore
- Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) on the project
- Select Restore backup
- Wait for the restore to complete before opening the project
Important: Restoring a project will overwrite any local version you have on your device with the cloud version. Make sure the cloud backup contains the version you want before restoring.
Restore All Cloud Projects:
To restore all your cloud backups at once:
- Open Settings
- Tap Restore your backups
- All cloud projects will be queued for restore
Important: Restores happen one at a time in the order you requested them. If a project already exists on your device, restoring will overwrite it with the cloud version.
Using Backups Across Multiple Devices
Project Backups sync across all devices signed in to your Voloco account:
- Projects backed up on your phone appear on your tablet (and vice versa)
- Your backup quota is shared across all devices
- The Library refreshes automatically when you open the app or switch to the Library tab
- You may also pull to refresh on the Library tab to fetch the latest project backup list from the cloud
Editing the Same Project on Multiple Devices
If you edit the same project on two different devices:
- The most recent cloud backup automatically becomes the active version
- No manual conflict resolution needed - the most recent backup wins.
- Make sure to let backups complete before switching devices for the smoothest experience
Deleting Projects with Backups
When you delete a project that has a cloud backup, both the local project and the cloud backup are deleted.
Voloco will always show you a confirmation dialog before deleting, so you won't lose backups by accident. Deleting a project with a backup frees up one backup slot in your quota for new projects.
Troubleshooting:
My project won't back up
Check these common issues:
- No subscription: Backups require Voloco Premium or the Project Backup add-on
- Quota reached: Delete unused backups or upgrade to increase your limit
- No internet connection: Backups require an active internet connection
- Project is open: Close the project to allow backup to proceed
Backup failed (cloud + exclamation icon)
Backup failures can happen due to network interruptions or connectivity issues. Voloco will automatically retry failed backups up to 3 times. If the issue persists:
- Check your internet connection
- Manually retry the backup using the project's three-dot menu
- If the problem continues, contact Voloco support
Restore failed
If a restore fails:
- Check your internet connection and try again
- If using "Restore All," Voloco will skip the failed project and continue with others
- Some very old backups may be incompatible with the current app version. You'll see a message if this is the case. Update to the latest version of Voloco and retry.
- Manually retry the restore using the project's three-dot menu
My cloud icons aren't showing
Cloud status icons only appear when:
- You're signed in to your Voloco account
- You have either Voloco Premium or the Project Backup subscription
If you meet both requirements and still don't see icons, try signing out and back in.
Getting Started with Project Backups
