Voloco is designed for vocal recording, but you can also record live instruments like acoustic guitar, electric guitar, keyboard, piano, or other accompaniment. If you're recording an instrument in Voloco and it sounds distorted, robotic, or gets canceled out entirely, you need to adjust one project setting.
Turn Off "Optimize for Voice"
Optimize for Voice is a setting designed specifically for vocals. It removes background noise when you record without headphones, but this same processing interferes with live instruments - causing them to sound unnatural or disappear entirely.
To record instruments cleanly:
Step 1: Open Project Settings
Tap the Project Settings icon (treble clef and gear icon) in the top right corner of your project.
Step 2: Turn Off "Optimize for Voice"
Find the "Optimize for Voice" toggle and turn it off.
Step 3: Start Recording
Tap record. Voloco will now capture your instrument audio without canceling it out.
Tips for Recording Instruments
Position Your Microphone
Place your phone close enough to capture the instrument clearly without distortion. Experiment with distance and angle.
Record Separately for More Control
Record your instrument first as the backing track, then record vocals on a separate layer. This gives you independent control over each element.
Importing Pre-Recorded Instruments
If you record your instrument in another app or on external equipment, you can import the audio file into Voloco and record vocals over it.
