Voloco 9.8 introduces powerful new features that make it easier than ever to create perfectly aligned music. The centerpiece is our new Snap to Grid functionality, along with enhanced tempo controls, key detection, and a built-in metronome.
What is Snap to Grid?
Snap to Grid automatically aligns your recordings and edits to musical beats, making your tracks sound more professional and in-time. When you move audio segments around, they'll "snap" to the nearest beat position on the grid, ensuring everything stays perfectly aligned.
Key Benefits:
- Perfect timing: Your recordings automatically align to the musical beat
- Easier editing: Moving audio segments becomes precise and intuitive
- Professional results: Creates polished, in-time recordings effortlessly
How to Use Snap to Grid
Enabling / Disabling Snap to Grid
Open Project Settings
- Toggle "Display Grid" to show or hide the visual grid
- Toggle "Snap to Grid" to enable or disable automatic snapping
Both features work together - when you disable Display Grid, Snap to Grid is automatically disabled
Recording with Snap to Grid
- Start recording: Works the same as before - recording starts where you tap and stops where you tap
- Playhead positioning: When you scrub (drag) the playhead and release, it automatically snaps to the nearest grid position
- Result: Your recordings will start precisely on-beat thanks to the snapped playhead position
Moving Audio Segments
- Record your segment as usual
- Tap and drag to move it around the timeline
- Watch as it automatically snaps to beat positions
- Release to place it perfectly in time
Trimming Audio Segments
- Trimming audio segments also respects snap to grid.
Granularity
- Snap to Grid uses eighth note granularity
Enhanced Tempo Controls
The tempo controls have been completely rebuilt with new automatic detection.:
Tempo
- Automatic: Voloco automatically detects the tempo when you load a backing track
- Manual override: Turn off "Automatic" to set your own tempo
- Tempo effects: Unlike some other apps, changing the tempo only affects the beat grid display and the metronome click - your recorded audio stays unchanged
Tempo: Manual override
- Half/Double tempo: Quick buttons to halve or double the current tempo
- Grid Start Offset: Precise beat grid alignment for beats with pickups (beats that start before measure 1)
Visual feedback: Watch the grid adjust in real-time as you change tempo settings
Automatic Key and Scale Detection
Voloco automatically detects the key and scale of your backing tracks.:
- Automatic: Enabled by default for new projects
- Manual override: Turn off automatic mode to select your own key and scale
- Project compatibility: Projects created before version 9.8 have automatic detection turned off to preserve your current settings
Metronome
Never lose the beat with Voloco's new metronome feature. When enabled, the metronome will make an audible click during playback and recording.
Metronome Controls
Toggle: Located in the control bar on the right side. Tapping this button toggles whether the metronome is enabled or disabled.
Volume control: Located in Project Settings. Adjusts the metronome volume
When to Use the Metronome
- Recording new tracks to stay in time
- Practicing before recording
- Keeping steady timing during longer recording sessions
- Only enable the metronome while recording with a headset to avoid recording the metronome sound onto your vocal track.
Visual Improvements
Track Numbers
- Multi-track projects now show track numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) on the left side
- Especially helpful when scrolling through many tracks
- Makes it clear which track you're currently recording on
Important Notes
